La Tania

France

La Tania - home slopes

The upside

  • Part of the Trois Vallées, with good access to Courchevel and Méribel
  • Long runs through woods to the village: a great place in a storm
  • Attractive, compact, traffic-free village
  • Much improved snowmaking, but ...

The downside

  • At this altitude, snowmaking is vital in most seasons
  • Limited village facilities
  • Village nursery slope gets through-traffic (but higher one does not)
  • The one long green run is not genuinely easy
  • No proper hotels

    Summary

La Tania is a good-value, family-friendly base from which to explore the slopes of its swanky neighbours in the Trois Vallées, Courchevel and Méribel. The resort was built for the 1992 Winter Olympics, and at 1350m is about the lowest purpose-built French resort you’ll find; its wood-clad buildings sit comfortably in a pretty woodland setting – quite a contrast to the bleakness of many French ski stations.
