Summary
Ylläs is particularly appealing as an alternative family holiday: a short transfer from Rovaniemi, and with the country’s biggest area of downhill slopes – and the longest run at 3km. There are excellent cross-country trails too. The mountain’s two gateways are both 4km from the lifts, but there is an increasing choice of accommodation dotted around its two villages and lift base. The slopes span both flanks of the mountain, giving plenty of scope for novices. Second and third week skiers will rapidly conquet the benign black runs though.
