Summary
Formigal is the largest ski area in the Spanish Pyrenees, and well-developed with modern facilities. It is a favourite with experts for its numerous black runs (though many of them could be red) and extensive off-piste. But you don’t need to be an expert to enjoy the area. The resort is on the east side of the Tena valley, characterised mainly by solidly built apartment blocks and a few smart hotels – pleasant enough, though spoiled by traffic. The slopes are all on the west side and spread over four, mainly treeless, side valleys that provide a good sense of travel, even for novices.
