Review of Les Menuires

1st April 2007 by philip usher

I stayed in Reberty just up the hill from Les Menuires. My chalet with Skitopia was right on the piste and you could ski right back to the door during the last week in March. I found the runs in very good condition and although snow cover was good they still had the snow making machines running all night. I am an intermediate skier, and I thought that the long blue runs were nice and cruisy with the odd steep pitch, the red runs were excellent, especially on the La Masse side of Les Menuires. The skiing link to Val Thorens is done by a very nice easy blue run and you are there before you know it. There is a red run back along the valley floor to Les Menuires, but it’s only red because it is narrow. It’s not steep anywhere - you can just point your skis and schuss all the way back. The skiing links to Meribel are by two easy red runs, and the blue run to St Martin de Belleville is a glorious 7km roller coaster blue run. The mountain restaurants are all hit and miss, some good ones and bad ones. The self service ones are the easiest to use. The restaurant on the Grand Luc piste, which is not self service, refused to serve me because I was on my own. The nightlife is a bit limited, just a few bars and pubs, just enough to get a half decent pub crawl going.
