Review of Verbier

31st March 2008 by Francisco

It was my first time in Verbier and I enjoyed it. I rented a car from Geneva airport and drove to the resort. I stayed in a modest but clean hotel, very well located, named Phénix (one bus station to The Medrans lifts). The owner was very friendly and willing to help in every doubt we might have. The snow was fantastic, this is really a resort for experienced skiers. The apres ski seems to be very good with lots of people in the shops and pubs / bars. The bad news are the constant utilization of busses to go everywhere, the connections between the 4 valleys are terrible and some very poor with old mechanical means. We went down the slopes and suddenly we were next to a road, then it was skis off, walk 15 m and then skis on back to skiing. Sometimes the piste map doesn’t match with the terrain. Pistes in Verbier were crowded but in Savoleyres, Siviez and Thyon almost with nobody. Food is very expensive and generally in France the food is better. The views from the top of the mountain are beautiful.
