Review of Breckenridge

18th March 2007 by Chris Parkinson

My 3rd visit to Breckenridge although this time hit the Spring Break so lower pistes were busy. However, there’s something for everyone from the great cruisey runs to more challenging blacks and bowls. This is not an extensive resort so the runs may be too short for some people. New this season was a gondola from the parking lots and a chair lift up to the Imperial Bowl. The town has a good selection of restaurants (My Thai is fantastic) and the Breckenridge Brewery is definitely worth a visit. The free bus services the town and surrounding areas and can be used to get to Keystone, A-basin and Copper Mountain (although you’ll have to buy a separate day pass here as it’s not covered by Breckenridge lift pass). Note that a day lift pass at A-Basin is cheaper than at Breckenridge so don’t buy in Breckenridge. I have been to Vail (covered by Breck lift pass) by bus before but there is a charge for this.
Breckenridge is high so there is a chance of altitude sickness; I’ve always found that taking it easy on the first few days and drinking plenty of water helps.
Overall, I like Breckenridge and the surrounding resorts very much; for the snow quality, variety of terrain, town, free bus service. The only dislike is the limited extent of ski area, but for beginners and intermediates there is plenty of skiing.
