Review of Bormio

7th March 2007 by Michael Gee

My wife and I are both expert skiers (she’s a former Aspen Ski School instructor and I’m an ex racer). We have skied 9 of the 10 areas your site considers major Italian resorts and many of the “minors”. It took us far too long to get around to Bormio; we had assumed, wrongly, that it was too difficult to access. But having finally made it we can’t wait to get back. It was a wonderful experience, simply a great mountain, great groomed runs and wonderful on-mountain restaurants. Some might find the mountain on the steep side but reasonably good intermediates will enjoy and more advanced skiers will love it. The town itself was a surprise; something out of the thirteenth century but charmingly different and fun to walk about and discover. We stayed, however, close by one of the gondolas at the Ambassador Hotel, which we can’t say enough good things about. A huge plus, it was Bormio where we discovered the Bombardino! For us Bormio is as close to heaven as you can get.
