Review of Obergurgl

17th November 2008 by Harry Murphy

The big advantage of this resort is the fact is that it is snow sure. Usually the first non-glacier resort to open in Austria (that includes 2008). The downside is that occasionally it can be very cold. The piste skiing is actually a lot more varied than the reviews would indicate with plenty of long and tricky reds or blacks. The reason the strong intermediates don’t like it is there is very little off piste. St. Anton it is not! The mountain restaurants are excellent and the Nederhutte is one of the best Apres Ski venues in the Alps. Hotels are not cheap and the resort attracts lots of families but it’s not really suited to older teenagers or young singles.
