Review of Verbier

21st April 2006 by Fiona Thexton

There is nothing to be said about skiing in Verbier’s 4 valleys that hasn’t been said already. It is exciting, challenging, varied, vast, and we are still finding new runs after having skied Verbier at February half term for the last 7 years. The trick is to make it affordable and avoid the crowds. Nendaz is an attractive, and much cheaper alternative to Verbier linking into the same lift system. You can avoid the Hooray Henrys and speak some French. The link into the Verbier lift system via Siviez and Tortin takes about an hour for a decent skier and could do with improving but it is easy to catch a bus or drive round to Siviez where one fast chair -rarely queued - takes you to Tortin. Siviez is also the access point for Thyon and Veysonnaz. You can stay in Siviez, which is basically 3 apartment blocks, 2 restaurants and a car park, but at 2000m is snowsure and very central. For this option look at the Interhome website. There is a family deal on the lift pass (passports required) which reduces the price considerably for kids under 16.
