Review of Courchevel

15th April 2008 by Peter Stratton

We skied Courchevel and the rest of the Three Valleys in January. This was my fourth visit there and I have to say that the skiing on offer is probably some of the best in Europe.

Height, width, breadth, depth you name it, the pistes in Courchevel have it. BUT, I am certain the local tourist board has set an agenda which is purely “elitist” and the prices are now so SKY high, the average skier can only read about the resort and dream. Of course you can stay nearby and be more economical but to really experience the resort and take in a few restaurant stops on the slopes, you’d better have a very flexible friend!
If the intention is to satisfy the wealthy oligarchs of Russia, then I understand from those in the know, they are succeeding…...one guy even flew his Bentley in just to drive around the resort!!
