Review of La Thuile
Got a late deal and was delighted by La Thuile. I think the resort undersells itself a little (the piste map is crap; get one from the French side - much clearer!) and is extremely quiet as a result. No queues for lifts - despite the main gondola being the slowest in the world! A deceptively extensive and varied ski area and the management of snow in the last week of January was excellent, despite no snowfall of any note for more than two weeks. Two days were blighted by the notorious strong winds and the easy link to France was closed on one day due to poor visibility.
Quiet at night and I would stay in the old village; less convenient but preferable to the Eastern-bloc-style Planibel complex. Spectacular views from the slopes, but the resort is no scenic beauty itself. Good for day trips to Pila and Courmayeur.
