Review of Sauze d’Oulx

2nd March 2014 by Chelle001

Stayed in Sansicario Alto during February half term 2014.  Skied to Sauze d’Oulx frequently although didn’t walk around Sauze village.  Snow was excellent, with frequent top-ups every other day alternating with blue skies and sunshine.  Plenty of snow cannons about if the snow had been less kind. Sansicario village is very small and quiet, which suited us.

Pistes in all areas of the Milky way were empty, especially mid-week.  We rarely had to queue at a lift - only a couple of minutes at key linking lifts (such as the lift to the top of M.Fraiteve).  Even at the weekend, when the Turin locals arrive, we had to wait no more than 2-3 minutes and this was only in the afternoon as they tend to arrive later morning.  We tended to get out early and stay high to avoid the worst of the “crowds”.

The Milky Way area is well pisted and cruisy, with most pistes over-stating their difficulty.  Many (but not all) blacks might be red in resorts in France, and some reds could be blues.  There is plenty of variety, though, with pistes winding through the trees, open bowls, natural gullies and lots of off-piste potential.

Plenty of mountain huts available for a refuel - not as pricey as some resorts, good range off food on offer and yummy hot chocs.
