Review of La Thuile
Visited end Jan 2012, a revelation, good pistes, no queues, mostly fast lifts and a link to France.
Yes, La Thuile is different, it has got a decent sized area linked at altitude with La Rosière in France; the pistes are good. There were no lift queues during our stay and the trip over to France was excellent, although the red run and draglift on return may not be to everyone’s liking.
It’s definitely not the place for lively après-ski; that’s the reason we chose it. We wanted good skiing by day and to relax with a meal and drink in the evening: paradise to us but not for others.
It’s a good family resort as far as the skiing goes, but the lack of amenities other than the Planibel’s pool and gym may be too limited for some families. If you’re happy playing monopoly and cards etc in the evening, not a problem; if you like to party then this is not that sort of place.
We stayed in a private apartment and found the facilities for food shopping fine. Fresh meat and veg and all the other requirements are available. It is a bit more expensive than down in the valley, but not too bad; we even found drinkable wine at 2 euros a bottle!! Having a car was a great advantage: we brought some food with us and it also gave the opportunity to go to the other nearby Aosta resorts.
