Review of Steamboat

6th July 2016 by Gringers

Have skied many North American resorts and Steamboat continues to be a favourite. To balance some of the other older reviews and even the web author - the mountain is BIG with plenty of terrain to keep your interest for more than a week. The mountain itself is beautiful and also has lots of incredible tree skiing.

Recent years have seen the addition of new high speed chairlifts including Elkhead upgrade for 2016/2017 which is a big bonus for connecting different sides of the mountain. One of the moutain restaurants at Four Points has been rebuilt and now provides another nice, large on-mountain option.

My son learnt to ski here and I can honestly say it is the best ski school I’ve ever come across (something I frequently hear from other people too).

Apres ski is good at the mountain base immediately at the end of the day but for late night shenanigans you have to head downtown (5ish min free shuttle ride) where you can choose just how rowdy you want to get!! There’s dozens of excellent restaurants including 3 or 4 really, really high calibre options (Cafe Diva, Bistro CV to name a couple). Equally as many good bars.

For accommodation, you really want to be in the mountain village rather than downtown. Most of the ‘resorts’ run complimentary on demand shuttles to take you downtown and to the mountain base but there’s a plethora of accommodations that are either ski in/out or within an easy 5 minute walk of the gondola.

Finally, the snow which is unbeatable anywhere else in the world. Champagne powder really is the best!
