Review of Nendaz

Nendaz and the Printse ski area are certainly the poor relation to the rest of the 4 valleys: Far too many draglifts, no covered chairs and only one fast gondola from Veysonnaz. The link in from the Nendaz base station means you have to use the Tracouet Telecabine before going down to Prarion and on to Plan du Fou. Beware no snowmaking on the initial descent, so it can be very poor and thin. I would suggest using the bus to Siviez is a better option if you are to access the Verbier sector and Thyon/Veysonnaz.

The skiing at Thyon/Veysonnaz from Siviez is tedious to access, with lots of distance to cover on summer roads and forest tracks while the slopes below Greppon Blanc offer some challenging off piste or good piste skiing…. you just have to put up with loads of drags. The slopes above Thyon are very pleasant, containing many quiet blue runs plus some challenging slopes – off-piste or a steep black that can be avoided by an easy red.

Signposting is poor; there are very few piste boards to show where you are and none of the pistes are numbered. Thyon has some simple hotel restaurants, and a Tepee for liquid refreshments and music.

Despite some recent snow in January when we were there, I will not be going back – far too many negatives. Better places can be found easily.
