Review of Madonna di Campiglio

20th January 2014 by peter woodhead

I have just returned from Madonna di Campiglio; after a great week’s skiing. This was helped by two large dumps at the beginning and at the end of the week. There would seem to be some confusion over off piste skiing, however. There are many signs stating “no off piste skiing” and this is repeated on the piste map. However to judge by all the tracks the signs seem to be widely ignored. We enjoyed a great morning with an instructor from Scuola Italina Sci Nazionale off piste on many routes from the top of Monte Spinale!  Progress on piste was difficult at some times due to the depth of snow!  Overall good piste cruising over quite a large area with some very steep but short black pitches.  All restaurants visited were good, but there are two te would recommend. Cascina Zelederia on blue piste 54 just above the village. Mains E12 -E20 with excellent wine list. Also the Rosa Alpine at Malghet Aut above Folgarida. Rather less sophisticated but super food around E10-E15 and very good local wine by the carafe.
