Review of Flaine

14th April 2014 by ricodjs

Plenty of variety here but don’t be fooled by all the blue pistes in Flaine itself. Early intermediates should avoid Flaine in my opinion. Why? I found most of them difficult for blues and they would scare most early blues badly, especially by the afternoon when the surfaces have been chopped up. Most blues were either skinny tracks or very steep or really busy or…you get the idea. Best areas for later beginners/early intermediate were either the area at Les Gerats off the top car park in Flaine Foret or those at the top of Samoens. However, if you are getting towards a confident intermediate level, then what a playground this is.
Some beautiful, beautiful Blue/red runs here, most of which are wide and weren’t that busy when I was here (22-29th Mar 2014). In fact, I never waited longer than 2 mins to get on anything and that was only 2 or 3 times.
Bags and bags of offpiste too for the more adventurous here. it’s just a shame the high high prices charged for the food and drink are offputting.
