Review of Megève

We absolutely love Megeve. Pretty streets, excellent slope grooming, hardly anyone on the slopes outside of school holidays and some amazing mountain restaurants. The skiing is also beautiful - the views are magnificent and a lot of the pistes are through trees. The ski pass is cheaper than elsewhere and the grooming is better than many other resorts, with very few idiots on the slopes.

Restaurants in the village are pretty pricey but the Flocons Village offers excellent value for money - you really need to book in advance though, it’s very popular and deservedly so. Supermarket prices are not too different from any other resorts and there is a butcher near the Sports Centre doing delicious plats du jour, which you can reheat if self-catering. You can also get Carrefour Montagne to deliver, although we have not tried it. The streets are fur-coat-and-little-dog territory, and don’t even think about shopping for clothes there if on a normal budget!

You can get the train to Sallanches from Paris - direct TGV services, and first class is an affordable luxury in France. The bus service meets the trains. There is an efficient bus shuttle around the resort, so if you know where you’re going you can save on taxis by taking public bus to Megeve and then shuttle to your accommodation.
