Sum-up

The weather will continue unsettled over the next few days with more snow for many resorts. The heaviest falls look likely across the northern Alps on Sunday.

Austria

A few snow showers (700m) will affect western Austria (especially the Arlberg) on Friday, but further east many parts will stay dry with sunny spells. The odd flurry is still possible in the far west on Saturday with the best of the sunshine again further east. On Sunday, a band of more persistent snow (600-900m) will affect much of the Austrian Alps, though the far south (Carinthia) could stay dry.

France

Friday will be mostly dry with sunny spells and freezing levels around 1500m in the north, 2000m in the south. Saturday will also stay dry for most, but snow (1200m) may reach the northern Alps later and overnight. The snow will continue for much of Sunday across the northern Alps (600-800m) but will be light and patchy further south.

Italy

Friday and Saturday will be mostly dry and relatively mild with sunny spells. Sunday will be cloudier with a little snow (1200m) in places, chiefly close to the border regions, but the heaviest of the snow will remain on the northern side of the Alps.

Switzerland

Friday will see a few snow showers (800m) in the north-eastern Alps, but most other areas will stay dry with sunny spells. Saturday will be mostly dry with sunny spells, but snow showers (1200m) may reach the northern Alps later. Sunday will be mostly cloudy with snow at times, heaviest across the northern Alps, lighter and patchier in the far south.

Outlook

Some snow is still possible early next week, perhaps heavy in the far south-west (Sauze d’Oulx, Isola 2000). Drier brighter conditions are likely further north and west and these should extend to other areas as the week goes on — though it will remain rather cold everywhere.
