Snow is finally falling again in the Alps, with more than two metres due this week in some places.

Two hours ago Les Arcs posted the above picture, saying 40cm of fresh snow was expected today. Our snow guru Fraser Wilkin at Weather To Ski indeed confirms the heaviest snow is expected across the northern French Alps, including Avoriaz, Flaine, Three Valleys and Paradiski. But he warns that the snowfall will be accompanied by strong winds at times, too — which could lead to lift closures.

And it doesn’t stop there.

“A new storm will roll into the Alps on Thursday bringing further heavy snow across the western and northern Alps in particular,” says weathertoski.co.uk. “This time the rain/snow limit will start very low but will rise to between 1000m and 15000m in places.”

The weather remains changeable for the weekend and next week, so keep an eye here for our full snow report from Fraser on Thursday evening.
